The main symptoms of coryza
- respiratory symptoms (coughing, sneezing)
- running eyes and nose
- loss of appetite
- generally weakened condition
- wounds, mouth ulcers that can increase saliva production
Increasing your cats immunitary defences
If your cat has caught coryza, think above all of increasing his immunitary defences with products that I recommend. Personally, I give first of all:
- GSE (grapefruit seed extract): natural antibiotic, antimicrobial, antibacterial, fungicide (10 drops a day)
- echinacea : stimulates the immune system, anti-inflammatory respiratory drug, natural antibiotic, anti-infection. Start a cure from the first signs of coryza, and continue it for 3 weeks. (2 capsules a day, or a tincture of 5 drops 3 times a day, or in concentrated form 1ml/day).
- homeopathy :
Pyrogenium 9 cH can replace an antibiotic. It’s recommended to treat acute infections, abscesses, bronchitis. It’s also recommended for suppurative processes.
Hepar sulph 15 cH is recommended to treat amongst others inflammatory situations, localised in the mucous areas of the respiratory tract: hoarseness, laryngitis, rhinitis, nasopharyngitis, tonsillitis; and for the eyes : purulent conjunctivitis.
You should give 5 granules 2 times a day. You can buy this homeopathy at the pharmacy.
It’s preferable to give homeopathy outside of mealtimes. You can dissolve the granules in a little bit of water, and directly inject it into the cats mouth, with the help of a syringe without a needle. If you have a cat who absolutely does not want to cooperate with you, put melted granules into his food.
You can give your cat essential oil inhalations : eucalyptus radiata, pine sylvester, true lavender, tea tree, ravintsara, all organic.
Careful that your cat doesn’t burn himself! You can put the cat in a transport basket, leaving a bowl with essential oils (not more than one or two drops!) outside the cage, and covering it all with a blanket. Do this two or three times a day for 15 minutes for at least a week. Keep an eye on him during the inhalation! If he miaows or hits out too much, it could be that the mixture is too strong for him! Essential oils are very strong and powerful, you should use them with great care!
Starting the treatment from the first signs of coryza
Ideally you will start to treat your cat from the first signs of coryza. If after 3 days of using the products I’ve advised you don’t see any improvement, or the cats condition worsens, take him to a vet so that he can perhaps be put under an antibiotic.
My experience of coryza
This treatment has worked well on my cats, as I managed to start it from the first symptoms of coryza. In my cats case it started with repetitive and frequent sneezing, and also a few tears and clear nasal discharge (like water).
Don’t forget : never vaccinate an ill cat! and never give homeopathy at the same time as corticosteroids.
